Chinese smartphone brand Realme achieves a milestone of shipping over 200 million phones worldwide in a little over five years. The company, most notable outside of China, plans to introduce premium phones with advanced features to compete in the market.
Realme’s Milestone Achievement
Since its establishment a little over five years ago, Realme, a Chinese smartphone maker, has successfully shipped more than 200 million phones globally. Surprisingly, the majority of these shipments were made outside China. The company has quickly become the fifth fastest smartphone maker to accomplish this feat, as per data from market analytics firm Counterpoint Research.
BBK Electronics Ownership and Market Position
Realme is owned by BBK Electronics, a prominent Chinese consumer hardware giant that also has ownership of popular brands like Oppo and Vivo. The company’s rapid growth has helped it to secure a strong position in the competitive smartphone market. Realme’s accomplishment of reaching the 200 million shipment mark places it among the top 10 smartphone brands globally, according to Xu Qi, Realme’s chief marketing officer.
Competitive Landscape and Premium Phone Launch
The market analytics firm Counterpoint Research’s data indicates that only four companies, namely Vivo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple, have achieved the 200 million shipment milestone in a shorter timeframe. Realme’s readiness to challenge the premium phone segment was highlighted by Xu Qi, who announced the upcoming launch of the Realme GT 5 Pro. This new handset will boast advanced features, including Qualcomm’s latest high-end chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Sony’s new Lytia camera sensor. Realme aims to compete with other brands like Xiaomi, which recently unveiled the Xiaomi 14 Pro, also powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.
