Pretzel manufacturer, Stellar Snacks, has announced its plans to invest $137 million in a new production facility in Louisville, Kentucky. This investment will create 350 full-time jobs over the next 10 years, making it the largest economic development project in the area in several decades. The company has selected an existing 434,000-square-foot building for its operations, with baking expected to commence in September next year. Governor Andy Beshear expressed his excitement for the project, emphasizing the importance of bringing significant investments to the long-overlooked area.
Hiring for the Kentucky facility is set to begin in March. Founded in 2019 by Elisabeth and Gina Galvin, Stellar Snacks specializes in baking pretzels and roasting nuts. The company currently operates two plants in Nevada, employing over 170 people. Elisabeth Galvin, one of the founders, highlighted their mission to expand production nationwide and provide career opportunities and a positive impact in the Louisville community. Stellar Snacks already distributes its products to over 5,000 stores across the United States, both in-person and online.
Governor Beshear, who is seeking reelection, sees this project as a testament to the state’s economic development success during his term. He credited his administration’s efforts to bring investments to every part of the state, promising even more economic growth in the future. Republican challenger Daniel Cameron, the state’s attorney general, has attributed the economic achievements to pro-business measures passed by the Republican-led Legislature and criticized President Biden’s policies for inflation. The project is pending final approval from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
