The Netherlands and South Korea Strengthen Partnership with Semiconductor and Nuclear Energy Cooperation


The Netherlands and South Korea deepen their strategic partnership, focusing on semiconductor cooperation and the construction of nuclear power plants, as well as increasing collaboration in digital technologies.

Semiconductor Cooperation

The Netherlands and South Korea are strengthening their partnership in the semiconductor industry, with Dutch caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte announcing increased cooperation during a meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Nuclear Power Plant Construction

As part of the visit, South Korean nuclear power company KHNP signed a contract to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of two new nuclear power plants in the southern Dutch town of Borselle. This move is aimed at transitioning to a CO2-free energy system.

Digital Technologies Collaboration

The two countries also agreed to enhance cooperation in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, mobile communications, and quantum research. Economic Affairs and Climate Minister Micky Adriaansens emphasized the focus on increasing collaboration in these areas.
